Professional work:

            Oct. 1, 2007: Bob Schaller’s book “Bets, Drugs and Rock and Roll” released worldwide from Skyhorse Publishing.

            July 28, 2006: Bob Schaller’s book, “Never stop Pushing,” from Avalon, was selected by the CBS Early Show as a “Top Summer Read.”

            Fall 2006: With a student-evaluation average of 4.79 on a scale of 5.0, Schaller was the among the highest rated instructors in Arts and Sciences at the University of Wyoming, despite a two-class mean of 73.4 percent.

            Spring 2007: With an evaluation of 4.81, Schaller was for the second semester in a row among the highest rated instructors in Arts and Sciences at the University of Wyoming.

Academic accomplishments:

 

            Jan. 11, 2007: Bob Schaller’s Media Ecology paper “Litorality: A new hybrid spoken-written language for cell phone text-messaging and Internet instant-messaging” was chosen for presentation at the “International Media Conference” in Athens, Greece, May 21-22, 2007.

 

            Aug. 1, 2007: News writing and reporting student evaluations at Texas Tech for Summer I and Summer II at Texas Tech scored Bob Schaller at 4.85 on a scale of 5.0.

 

            Awards, 15 (newspaper):

            Including national award, Enterprise Reporting from Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE), honorable mention; Associated Press Feature Story of the Year; Nebraska Press Association Columnist of the Year; Section of the Year, NPA; Feature story of the year, NPA; Breaking News Story of the Year (NPA, AP); General Excellence (twice, entire paper earned honor); Heisman Trophy Voter (1996).

 

     Fifteen years as editor/writer/copy editor at three daily newspapers, including 10 as editor (managing editor or sports editor); author of 36 published books (view at amazon.com or bn.com).

 

      Currently a contributing writer for several magazines and online news sites, including: Skating, Splash Magazine, USA Gymnastics and USA Hockey Magazine. 

 

      Reporter, Barstow (Calif.) Desert Dispatch (covered school board, city government, court beats) (1988-1989). Covered education beat during transition in city’s development as families with kids who were in gangs moved from Los Angeles to Barstow to “escape” the gang culture. This of course brought an entire new issue to Barstow’s community.

 

    Copy editor/Associate section editor, Antelope Valley (Calif.) Daily Press (1989-1991). First six months served as news copy editor before taking over as associate sports editor, where I assigned story coverage for a staff of eight, managed the sports copy desk and laid out the section and edited all copy and wrote headlines five nights per week.

           

     Sports editor/columnist at Scottsbluff (Neb.) Star-Herald, 1991-1997. Managed staff, produced story coverage and assignments, laid out pages and wrote headlines and cutlines. Edited copy nightly, encouraged and developed young writers and copy editors.

 

            Copy editor/Contributing writer, Colorado Springs Gazette, Feb. 1999 to April, 2006. Produced feature stories and business-sports stories for daily newspaper. As copy editor in 1999 and 2001, I edited staff and wire copy, wrote headlines and cutlines, and designed pages.

 

            Teaching:

            Graduate teaching assistant COJO 2100, News writing and Reporting, at the University of Wyoming, and adjunct English instructor (freshman comp, English 1010) at Laramie County Community College-Albany County Campus.
